A business is useless without a constant flow of customers coming through the doors. Whether you are a small business owner or home business owners, you need to be in contact with potential customers constantly to succeed. Each respective group is good at certain types of marketing. Home business owners are usually really savvy with internet marketing, or at least have some knowledge of it, while not really grasping off line advertising. Small business owners are slightly different though. Most traditional advertising is done offline and their online presence isn't always as strong as it should be.
When it comes to local markets, having a strong business presence online can prove to be very beneficial. Unfortunately there are only a couple local businesses that utilize the internet to drive customers to their stores. Helping your page rank on Google can be a tremendous boost to your bottom line. Especially since most of the time when people look up information about stores and products, they do so online.
Gone are the days when everyone used to look through the phone book for coupons and addresses. This is not to say offline advertising is obsolete, to the contrary it can provide very good results. Some people still do look through the phone book so it is important to have a presence there. You as a small business owner needs to capture some of the eyeballs that are found on the internet. It's a customer stream that many small business owners have never tapped into.
In the struggling economy it is pivotal for businesses to adapt. Not taking advantage of a tool that could lead to many customers is just not viable in this day and age. Many business start closing if they cannot adapt to the changing times. A local Blockbuster is closing down because their business model is not in tune with the times. Netflix and other online retailers are starting to close down the local video rental stores. It is survival of the fittest in the business world. Stop leaving money on the table and go out to generate a strong presence online.
